Vito Brunetti is a founding member of Vito A. Brunetti, Esq., LLC and the firm’s principal attorney. Mr. Brunetti has been practicing family law in Hudson County since 1999 as a staff attorney at Northeast New Jersey Legal Services (previously known as Hudson County Legal Services). He was a relentless advocate for the community’s indigent community: advising and representing individuals who could not afford their own private attorney in the diverse areas of family law, including divorce, custody and parenting time, child support, spousal support, equitable distribution, relocation and domestic violence.
Mr. Brunetti started his legal career serving as a law clerk for the Honorables Joann Spatola and John Triarsi of the Superior Court of Union County. During his clerkship, he helped Judge Spatola author the published decision: State v. Myrick, 282 N.J. State 285 (A.D. 1995), 659 A.2d 976.
Law was a second career for Mr. Brunetti, who previously worked freelance in both film and video production in New York City’s independent community in the 1970 and 80s. He eventually went to work for Channel 4, WNBC’s local affiliate, in their news department as a video editor and producer.
And during his tenure at both NBC and Legal Services he was a union representative where he helped negotiate to improve the working conditions for his colleagues with management. He grew up in a union household and understood the need to protect and defend the dignity and rights of his fellow workers, whether they were technicians or professionals.
At home in his own neighborhood, Mr. Brunetti once again applied his advocacy skills, whether in New York City or Jersey City, New Jersey. He volunteered as community organizer in New York City (where he help organize tenant strikes against landlords) and later on, when he moved to New Jersey, he helped organize and steward the Riverview Neighborhood Association, one of the longest active neighborhood groups in Jersey City Heights community.
As he has demonstrated through his life, Mr. Brunetti believes in the dignity of the individual. As an attorney, he is comfortable utilizing family law and the court system to protect and defend the rights of his clients. Tenacious and thorough, he takes each case personally and acts not only as a legal advocate but their social worker as well.
Mr. Brunetti, as a graduate of New York University, received both a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degree. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the Seton Hall School of Law in Newark, New Jersey. He is currently a member of the Hudson County Bar Association.
